Kicking off the 14th Starburst Storytellers’ Festival is John Thomas Fowler! Hear stories of Appalachia with “Grandma’s Apron Strings.” Free and open to all ages.
A bona fide storyteller and award winning old-time musician with family ties to the Southern Appalachian hills, John has over 25 years of experience in sharing his talents at festivals, gatherings, libraries, in classrooms and performance halls from coast-to-coast. On the stage his presentation are a blast of creative energy articulating time, place and people involving humor, music and realistic characters. John tells southern folktales, Jack & Grandfather Tales, stories of haunts and hants, untruths and family yarns weaving music, folklore and history. His programs have been called “a natural stepping stone that leads to our past”. John is a recent recipient of the Jean Laney Harris Folk Heritage Award, the highest award given to folk artists in South Carolina.
The Starburst Storytellers’ Festival is presented by the Friends of the Anderson County Library.
