Local History Talks: "The Secrets That Lie Beneath Hartwell Waters" with Furman Beck

For October's Local History Talks meeting, local author and historian, Furman Beck will share with us the fascinating history of Portman Shoals, a once-vibrant settlement now nestled 200 feet beneath the waters of Lake Hartwell. At the heart of its prosperity stood the Portman Shoals Dam, a pivotal structure on the Seneca River. This dam not only shaped the landscape but also played a crucial role in powering the nearby city of Anderson and in its earning of the enduring moniker, "The Electric City."
