Join Joshua Parks, photographer for The Green Book of South Carolina: A Travel Guide to African American Cultural Sites and current in-house creator for the International African American Museum opening in June in Charleston, for a discussion of South Carolina’s settlement communities during Jim Crow segregation.
Joshua will discuss their rise, struggle for survival, and the confrontation with racial violence black communities often faced while trying to uplift and uphold their legacy.
The Green Book of South Carolina, compiled by the WeGOJA Foundation (on behalf of the SC African American Heritage Commission), is a first-of-its-kind travel guide to the most tourist-friendly destinations, offering visitors avenues to discover intriguing African American history as they travel the state.
Books will be available to purchase with signing, courtesy of Pendleton Bookshop. A special thanks to Pendleton Historic Foundation, Pendleton Foundation for Black History and Culture, and AARRI.
